Biography

Fabián dos Rios, born on January 11, 1994, in Dénia, Spain, is a Spanish-German composer, pianist, performer, and writer known for blending literature with contemporary neoclassical music through an avant-garde approach. Raised along the Mediterranean coast, Fabián’s artistic foundation was enriched by his great uncle, the designer of Circus Jonny Caselly, and his grandfather, a celebrated violinist with the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1960s.

Fabián’s work often features a concept he describes as 'Literature Meets Piano,' where he intertwines piano melodies with profound literary leitmotifs from works such as The Alchemist, Le Petit Prince, and Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. His performances offer a magical journey that combines a neoclassical music style with literary inspirations, resulting in a captivating blend of serenity and emotional depth. This unique approach has distinguished him in the contemporary classical music scene, setting him apart from renowned artists like Ólafur Arnalds, Jean-Michel Blais, Yann Tiersen, Hans Zimmer, Ludovico Einaudi and Nils Frahm, from whom he draws inspiration.

Fabián’s musical journey began with formal piano lessons under Dirk Richartz, but he soon diverged from traditional methods to cultivate his unique, minimalist yet powerful neoclassical style. His self-taught exploration led to a distinctive approach that merges Classical sensibilities with modern rhythms and sometimes electronic textures. This innovative style is characterized by a harmonious blend of neoclassical and contemporary elements, creating music that is both reflective and emotionally compelling.

In 2018, a pivotal experience in Buenos Aires, where he played on a piano connected to his family's musical heritage, inspired him to compose with renewed passion. His debut album, Primer Acto, released in March 2019, showcased this fresh perspective and was met with critical acclaim. By the end of that year, Fabián had won Kunst gegen Bares, a talent show in Cologne, three times consecutively. This significant accomplishment not only distinguished him in the evolving world of neoclassical music but also earned him the highest win in the illustrious history of the show, which has featured over 700 performances, each with six talented artists.

Today, the crescendo of Fabián's talent resounds globally, with over 2 million streams within a year and notable coverage in esteemed media outlets, including Radio Clásica Española (RCE).
